Barney Phillips, born June 27, 1941, in Monroe, Louisiana, graduated from the University of Texas with a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering in 1965. He began his career with Exxon at their Baytown, Texas, oil refinery. After 15 years of working in business development and major projects, he joined Tenneco in Houston, Texas, to become heavily involved in their synthetic fuels development program designed to offset dependence on foreign oil. It was during this assignment in Colorado that he met his wife, Joanna. They were married in 1986 and have four children and four grandchildren.

While with Tenneco, Barney was assigned to Istanbul, Turkey, to develop new business opportunities in that country. This began a series of international assignments, including stays in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Barney finished his career with Koch Industries, both in Wichita, Kansas, and in Houston, Texas. He and Joanna retired to a small ranch near Bryan, Texas, that the church has aptly dubbed “Barneyville.”

Barney was a man who thought he was saved most of his life. However, by God’s Grace, he truly was born again in 2004 and continues to strive to seek first the Kingdom of God in all aspects of his life. email: Prayer@lhbcb.org

    Sherman Watters – Deacon

    Sherman Watters - Deacon

Sherman was born in Louisville, Kentucky and grew up in Houston, TX. He met his sweet wife Rachel (born in Macomb, Illinois) in 1996 while in High School. While they both grew up in church and had professions of faith, neither walked in a way that it was apparent they had been saved. They have lived in the B/CS since 2003 when they were married and both graduated from Texas A&M University where they sought worldly passions. Sherman and Rachel truly began to follow Christ while at Living Hope College Station and since then, God has “wrecked [them] for the lost, international missions, pouring [themselves] out for the poor and the oppressed in this world and [has given them] a deep love for the local church.” Sherman is blessed to have the wife of his youth at his side as they strive to proclaim Jesus’ Gospel in every area of their lives. The Watters are parents to as many as six at this point (ask them) and have a heart for the widowed and orphaned. Their heart for the church is that “Christians proclaim this glorious Gospel that we have received by His Grace and quit living for sin and self and truly grasp our mission in this world as we sojourn here.” email:
